Bruno Taut

.

We've been to Bruno Taut's Hufeisensiedlung (Horseshoe Developement, 1925). The architect is special to me: I've done a lot of research about him and i've written about him and his work. But still i can't stay in front of one of his houses and say easily "Wow, this is amazing, it's beautiful!", like i could do in front of a Mies building, for example. Taut is a thinker, a humanist, an architectural poet, maybe a dreamer as well as a ingenious professional. His main concern never seemed to be aesthetics, it seems that it has been the hearts of the people he's built for. He did many, many plans for housing units and here in Berlin we are surrounded by them. In 1933 he emigrated and remaind in Japan for about three years. But that's another (very interesting) chapter.
